WoW (Writer of the Week) Media Training for Authors

FAQs

Q: What is WoW Media Training?

Being on camera and being interviewed is not something that many of us have experienced or have had an opportunity to practice and we are understandably nervous and not as at ease as we’d like to be in the beginning. My media training creates a practice and training space for you to hone and polish your branding, messaging, media appearance and interview skills from the comfort of your own home, culminating in a published Writer of the Week video interview.

If you are working or have worked with a publicist, there are gaps in what they provide, for example setting up interviews without providing any kind of media training for their clients. My training covers this gap and is also for authors who are acting as their own publicist.

Q: How will Media Training help me as an author?

A: My media training will help you in:

  • Getting comfortable on camera / radio / podcasts.
  • Building confidence.
  • Crafting and practicing communicating your message and talking about your book/s.
  • Practicing the interview to build confidence before final recording of Writer of the Week.
  • Having a published Writer of the Week video interview to showcase yourself to show to future podcast hosts / journalists / TV and media outlets.
  • Familiarizing yourself with the best lighting, making eye contact with the camera.
  • How to take pauses instead of saying ‘um’ and other filler words.
  • Fine tuning your talking points for your media kit.
  • The final interview can be embedded in your media appearances section on your website, put on your YouTube channel, sent out in blog posts, newsletters and on social media.
  • In preparation for future interviews, you can read the  Writer of the Week transcript and watch or listen to your interview.

Q: How does it work?

  • The training takes place over four weeks. You will be sent the WoW Questionnaire to complete, which addresses your branding, goals, talking points, strengths and areas you’d like to improve.
  • You will also receive the WoW Media Training Manual, which covers on-camera interview skills, how to set up the best lighting, clothing, make up and hairstyle tips for looking good on camera, (make up is optional, not required for the interview), making eye contact with the camera, how to take pauses instead of saying ‘um’ and other filler words, how to pivot, and more.
  • Through a series of carefully planned, evaluated and assessed video assignments over the four weeks, you will build your branding, messaging, and interivew skills in a systematic, step-by-step way that builds your confidence and dramatically improves your on-camera presentation.
  • This culminates in a polished, pre-recorded and edited Writer of the Week interview where you incorporate all that you’ve learned.
  • You will receive a full transcript of the Writer of the Week interview, as well as the audio file to use in preparation for podcast appearances and more.
  • The Writer of the Week interview consists of highly customized questions. The format of the interview is the questions, Tweet of the Week, then book reviews, then you read an excerpt from your book, then closing call to action to purchase and learn more at your website.
  • I send you a separate Top 10 Quotes PDF document that highlights memorable quotes from your interview for you to use in your media kit, on social media posts, on your website, in ads, to build your online Author Authority for Google ranking, as well as to apply for other media appearances.
  • I send you a link to the final published interview, as well as code for you to embed it on your website.
  • I show you how to put the interview on your YouTube channel as a showcase in your Media Appearances section.
  • The final Writer of the Week interview also ranks very high in Google and is a writer portrait showcase that forms an ongoing advertisement for your book and a media appearances history to give other media outlets confidence in featuring you on their shows.
  • At the end of the four weeks, you will receive a personalized WoW Media Training Certificate of Achievement.
